After a brief spell of 'retirement', Phil joined First Data September 2006 to be Managing Director and Vice President of Bank of Scotland Merchant Services, a service operated by First Data on behalf of the Bank of Scotland

Prior to that he spent over 37 years with LloydsTSB, undertaking various roles in retail banking, with the last 10 years specialising in the cards business.  The first 5 years of his time in Cards, was with LTSB’s card acquirer and during this time he headed Sales and Marketing then Merchant Operations before becoming Head of Risk, a role which he held until he took the opportunity to retire early.

Some 4 years prior to retirement, Phil, along with his acquiring activities, also had responsibility for LloydsTSB card issuing fraud strategy and undertook leading roles in the U.K. Card Schemes.  He was Chair of the Visa U.K. Working Group following which, he chaired the MasterCard Members Forum Security Committee and, for good order, was also Deputy Chair at the Association of Payment and Clearing Services (APACS) Prevention of Fraud on Plastic Cards Forum (PFPF).  He also served on the MasterCard Fraud Control and Security Advisory Committee, overseeing the fight against fraud at European level.

He was fully involved for a number of years with the industry initiative to implement Chip and PIN in the U.K. attending various Committees and latterly chairing the APACS Chip and PIN Forum.

Phil has chaired the U.K. Fraud Conference in three previous years. Phil brings great style and considerable experience to the role of chairman. 

Despite his change of role, he is very keen to be involved and, like so many people in our part of the industry is passionate, about preventing fraud.
